Textured skin – tips and tricks
What are common makeup issues that occur with textured skin?
- I think the most common mistake that I notice dealing with textured skin is people not using the right products for textured skin. In my opinion, you need some sort of powder that will diminish the appearance of the pores and/or a foundation that is more matte. Although dewy and glowy skin is in, matte and powder are the only things going to help with texture. It creates the illusion of a flatter surface. Dewy and glowy formulated products actually tend to “highlight” any texture. If you still want a natural or more glowy look, make the more textured parts of your face matte (this tends to be the cheeks, near the nose, forehead, and chin) while leaving the rest natural and glowy.
What types of products work best for textured skin/ products you'd recommend?

- The types of products that work the best for textured skin are going to be more matte foundations, concealers, and powders. For foundations, pick a matte foundation. I like something buildable, so you can really play up the coverage in the areas that need more. I’m obsessed with Catrice’s HD Liquid Coverage Foundation. It’s extremely buildable, also so lightweight! This formulation would be ideal for someone with more textured skin. It’s a breathable matte that is waterproof, cruelty free, and longwear. Not to mention a complete steal at only $10!

For concealers, I also would suggest something more matte, for liquids, I love Catrice’s True Skin High Cover Concealer. This is a great concealer for both under the eyes and spot concealing. It has a natural finish, but can easily be set with a pressed powder. This formula won’t sink into the texture, as it’s lightweight, and it will help diminish any texture. It’s vegan, cruelty free, oil free, and waterproof as well. Lastly, I think the most important product for textured skin is powder. Powder is my top product for blurring any texture on the skin.

For a great vegan, affordable option, I love Catrice’s Bright & Blur Loose Powder! The keyword being blur in this instance, it helps to blur any texture where the powder is placed. I love using a powder puff and stamping the product in. A must have for anyone with textured skin!
What are your tips for building a makeup routine for textured skin?

-
I would recommend focusing on building the perfect base routine for textured skin because those are the products that matter. This also includes skin prep before makeup as well, so be sure to tailor a skin prep routine to your skin type. I would also include a blurring primer, Catrice has a great affordable one, called “The Perfector” that will help blur any texture on the skin from underneath the makeup!
