Hooded Eyes

What are some great tips for hooded or droopy eyes?

-        Some great makeup tips for hooded or droopy eyes are: one, add some lightness/brightness (such as lighter colored or more shimmery eyeshadow) to give the illusion of the eye being more open, two, do not fear blending out past the actual eyelid, and three, my favorite trick is to do eye makeup when your eyes are open, so that you can see how it will look when your eye is open. I notice a lot of people do their eye makeup with their eyes closed, and when you have hooded eyes, it can look completely different when your eyes are open versus when they are closed. As people with hooded eyes know, sometimes the eyeshadow completely disappears(rude)! That’s why doing your makeup with your eyes open is such a good idea.

What products are great for brightening hooded/droopy eyes?

 -    I definitely recommend a color corrector to brighten hooded/droopy eyes. Catrice’s viral Under Eye Brightener would be perfect! There’s 4 different shades, the formula is creamy, hydrating, and instantly gives you the look of 8 hours of sleep. A color corrector works by neutralizing any discoloration and in terms of the eye area, there is almost always darkness under the eyes. And darkness under the eyes gives the illusion of the eyes being even more sunk in than they actually are, which would be especially difficult for those with hooded/droopy eyes.

A good eyeshadow palette that can brighten hooded/droopy eyes is Catrice’s Safari Fever Slim Eyeshadow palette. It’s vegan, affordable, and has an array of champagne and gold shimmery shades (“spirit” and “golden hour” are my favorites). These kinds of shades immediately open up the eye if blended over the lid! Remember that light or eyeshadow colors that illuminate light (shimmers), will give the illusion of the eye being more forward, while shading the eye with a deeper color will give the illusion of depth. It’s the same reason we contour our cheekbones and highlight our under eyes.

Another thing I would mention to those with hooded/droopy eyes, is to curl your lashes with a quality curler. Most lashes stick out straight on hooded/droopy eyes (sometimes the lid is literally pushing them down), so curling them upright instantly opens the eyes more.
