How to set your makeup like a pro
What does setting makeup mean?
- Setting makeup means applying a powder or setting spray to hold the makeup in place all day. This prevents the product from moving around your face and/or sweating it off through the day. Setting is necessary especially for products that do not set themselves (concealer, some foundations, cream products). Setting helps the longevity of your makeup look!
How can you tell if your makeup is set?
- There are different ways to see if your makeup is set. I for one, check to see if the makeup is sliding off or I’ll check the finish of the product. If the product appears “dewy” or wet, you need to set it with a powder or a spray to shellac it into place.
How can you set your makeup?
- You can either set your makeup with powder or a setting spray or both if you’re me and want to make sure your makeup lasts.
How do you set your makeup and ensure it lasts during makeup prep?

- I personally set my makeup through powder first. I’ll grab a loose powder (Catrice’s Soft Blur Matte Setting powder is great for this!) on a powder puff after all my base is applied (foundation, concealer, cream contour or bronzer). I’ll dab off any excess powder on the palm of my hand, so there isn’t too much powder. Then I’ll go in and stamp the areas where I put concealer and any cream products. Then I’ll finish the eyes and lips. My last step is always a strong setting spray, I love Catrice’s Ultra Last2 fixing spray which will keep your makeup on for up to 18 hours of wear. Plus the formula is vegan, cruelty free, and is only $8.

Are there ways to set products while applying makeup?
- Yes, you can use powder to set makeup products while applying makeup! Setting spray is really the last step.
How should one set their makeup when their look is complete?
- You should set your makeup with a strong hold setting spray once your makeup look is complete.
Do you have any other tips/tricks for setting your makeup and making it last?
- Once you’ve sprayed the setting spray, use a hand fan to dry the face. Then for extra hold and longevity on someone who is oily, take some extra powder and stamp it in the T-zone. This will sandwich the makeup on.
