Sweat Proof Glam For Summer
Spoiler alert: It’s makeup meltdown season and you need a sweat-proof makeup
routine asap. Sweat is enemy number one to your summer makeup routine, and it's practically unavoidable with the hot seasonal temps. But it can be with a really good sweat-proof makeup routine. A foolproof summer makeup routine can be yours with more than a couple of waterproof formulas (which are an absolute summer must by the way!). The secret lies in setting your makeup correctly. Here are the celebrity makeup pro tips for getting sweat-proof makeup right and ensuring your makeup lasts–even through a heat wave.
WHAT DOES SETTING MAKEUP MEAN?
You might have guessed that setting your makeup involves an extra product or
step, and that’s right. “Setting makeup means applying a powder or setting spray to hold the makeup in place all day,” says celebrity makeup artist Emily Gray. “This prevents the product from moving around your face or sweating it off throughout the day,” she says. Think of the setting step as a longevity tool for your makeup. Where it matters the most is for products that don’t set themselves like concealer, some foundations and cream products.
HOW CAN YOU TELL IF YOUR MAKEUP IS SET?
An easy way to check if your makeup is set properly is to check the finish of your product after applying it. Gray recommends looking to see if your makeup is sliding off, which is a telltale sign it wasn’t set correctly. “If the product appears “dewy” or wet, you need to set it with a powder or a spray to lock it into place.”
SETTING YOUR MAKEUP THE RIGHT WAY
Long-lasting makeup routines have one thing in common: a setting routine. Here’s how to do it. After your base is applied, Gray suggests grabbing a powder puff and this lightweight loose powder. “Dab excess powder on the palm of your hand and then use the puff to stamp the areas of the face that you’ve applied concealer or cream products to,” she says. After finishing your makeup application on the eyes and lips, she suggests reaching for a strong setting spray next. “I love the Catrice Ultra Last2 fixing spray, which will keep your makeup on for up to 18 hours of wear.” To help speed up the drying time, try using a hand fan. Have oily skin or want even more hold and longer wear for your summer makeup routine? “Take some extra powder and stamp it on the T-zone to sandwich the makeup on,” says Gray.
