Cat Eye Basics

Glamorous, daring, iconic…and scary? For the uninitiated the classic cat eye can be intimidating. With the right products and technique however, creating that perfect cat eye look is no problem.

Essential Tools

The cat eye begins with two things: the right base and the right tools. A good base for a cat eye includes a clear and even complexion, a little pink blush on the cheeks and a nude or classic shade on the lips.

In terms of tools, you’ll need a black liquid or gel liner with a fine felt tip or angled brush, which allows your liner to glide on easily. Catrice Liquid Gel Cushion Liner’s unique formula also ensures a smooth and even application.

To create the cat eye, do each of the following steps on both eyes to increase your chances of an even final look:

Step 1:

Start with the winged tip. Close your eye and draw an angled line from the outer corner of your eye upwards. To keep it straight, use a makeup sponge or tape and don’t pull the skin taut.

Step 2:

Connect the top of the line you just drew to your lash line, creating a triangle shape. Then fill it in.

Step 3:

Blend the triangle into the lash line by applying the liner from the triangle to the inner corner of your eye. Do remember to make the line thinner the closer you get to the inner corner of the eye.

Step 4:

Erase any smudges with a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover and then sweep on a coat of black mascara, such as the Catrice Glam & Doll False Lash Mascara, to complete the look.

Not as purrfect (sorry) as you hoped? That’s okay! Anyone who regularly rocks the cat eye will tell you that the first time wasn’t perfect, but that’s why you practice. Once you’re used to the product and technique, we’re sure you’ll be ready for your close-up.
